California is filled with beautiful light and equally gorgeous locations. Picking a spot for your engagement session can be difficult so we listed out some of our favorite places to photograph.
The Lab / The Camp
The eclectic decor at the Lab makes for some unique backdrops. If bold style is not your taste then head across the street and you’ll find a more modern outdoorsy location. You can’t go wrong photographing here.

LACMA
Usually photographed for its iconic collection of restored lampposts, LACMA also had a lot to offer during the day. Being an art museum they held nothing back in the design which makes even the air vents a pleasure to photograph.

Santa Monica
When one thinks of a California sunset the Santa Monica pier comes to mind. The carnival rides and beaches are always fun during last hour of sunset. If you have time before there are a few gorgeous hotels within walking distance such as the Viceroy and Shutters. Be careful though, without a permit you can get kicked out easily!

Scripps Seaside Forum
Uniform wooden beams and unique architecture surround this little area of the beach in San Diego. There is a pier close by along with many greenery areas. A very well rounded and different place to shoot. The best part is that it’s never crowded!

Venice Beach
If you’re into something a little more gritty but want have a nice view of the beach then we would recommend you hop on over to Venice. Colorful graffiti and different personalities line the shore. Not too far away are the famous Venice Canals and Abbot Kinney.

Disneyland
Katrina and I used to own annual passes and used to frequent Disneyland almost every week. If this park is a magical place for you then it could make for some very meaningful and fun photographs.

Griffith Observatory
There’s no better place to overlook the city than the Griffith Observatory. Heading inside you’ll find planets and a bunch of other interesting things to photograph. Griffith Park is right next door if you want to get in some nature as well. A very well rounded place to photograph.

Your Home
If you want something truly unique how about being photographed in your very own home. Katrina and I love the intimacy these photographs portray. Your images will be personal and truly show the current stage in life.

Your Favorite Bar
Love having a night out in the town? Have a favorite spot you visit every week? What better place to show off your personalities than to document your favorite hang out spot.

Old Town Orange
Old Town Orange is definitely one of our favorite spots to photograph. Antique shops and mom and pops fill the street and really make you feel like you stepped back in time. Chapman University is right around the corner which also has great classic architecture coupled with some modern designs.

Open Fields
You can’t beat California in the spring. Open fields that were once barren are now blooming with mustard plants and gorgeous flowers. You are always bound to get dreamy, luminous, and classic photos.

Irvine Great Park
Once the El Toro Marina Corps Air Station, the Great Park is now set to become the largest public park in Southern California. Besides having a great juxtaposition of a a modern park and military bases, it also has a carousel and even offers free hot air balloon rides.
